Andreas Hansen trained to become a cabinet maker before studying at The School of Applied Arts and Crafts until 1962 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Furniture Design in Copenhagen through 1963. While studying in Denmark, Hansen also traveled to Florence, Rome and Venice and worked for Mogens Koch and Wilhelm Wohlert.
After graduating Hansen founded his own design studio from where he created furniture, lamps and other objects for both private homes and offices for primarily Danish manufacturers including Le Klint, Louis Poulsen and Fog & Morup. Hansen is best known for the lampshades he designed for Le Klint early on in his career, such as the Model 153 and Model 314.
As a furniture designer Hansen has designed sofas for Nielaus Møbler and a wooden desk and chair for Hadsten Traeindustri in 1970, where of the desk in Oregon pine wood is a part of the collection at the Museum of Furniture Studies in Stockholm.
In 1968 Hansen returned to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he worked as a teacher, while also being engaged as an educator at The School of Applied Arts and Crafts in 1970 to -73.
