Arne Tidemand Ruud came from a family that owned furniture factories in several Norwegian cities. Tidemand Ruud worked for his father and took his journeymans degree in 1935 while also studying at Statens håndverks – og kunstindustriskole.
Tidemand Ruud worked in the family business until 1953 when he took over leadership of the company AS Inventar. Together with his wife, textile designer Solveig Tideman Ruud, he designed and produced furniture for three decades. The couple mainly worked for public interiors of which the Norwegian Radio House in 1945 is the most well-known.
Holmenkollen is the name of the lounge chair that is Tidemand Ruud most prolific piece. Designed in 1959, Holmenkollen was mainly sold in USA, Germany, and Sweden due to the export organization Norcraft.
Arne Tidemand Ruud passed away in 1985 at the age of 70.
