Ben af Schultén studied at Atenuem Fine Arts School in Helsinki from 1960-64. During the summer of 64, af Schultén worked as an assistant at Artek, and after graduation, he was employed as an interior architect at the Artek Design Studio.
Af Schultén focused on product development, utilizing the Aalto archive to create new pieces for the furniture collection. One of these was the children’s highchair Model 616, the armchair Model 411, and the Espa chair.
In 1976, Ben af Schultén became Artek’s design director and stayed at the company until 2004.
