In 1978 Curt Lagerström and Anders Söderberg got the third prize in a Nordic furniture competition at the international furniture fair in Copenhagen. The duo’s entry was the desk Färg och Form (eng. Color and Shape) made with an orange and red concretistic decoration and was dedicated to the Russian poet Vladimir Majakovskij. Färg och Form was a clear break-up from the modernistic furniture tradition and is seen as the first real post modernistic Swedish furniture. It was immediately acquired by the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
Lagerström and Söderberg strived to create expressive furniture and environments with scenographic qualities that would inspire people to act. With two exhibtions, Mellan stolarna (eng. Between the chairs) in Lund and Möbel- och rumskonst (eng. Furniture- and room art) at the House of Sweden in Stockholm, they wanted to put the artistic experience in the center and to challenge the modernistic ideas.
In 1982 Lagerström and Söderberg designed the exhibition Provokationer – nya former i arkitekturen (eng. Provocations – new shapes in the architecture) at the House of Culture in Stockholm. The exhibition showed the duo’s own pieces, such as the chair Tre stolar i en (eng. Three chairs in one) and the Seatblock together with pieces from the international Memphis group with a.o. Ettore Sottsass.
Lagerström and Söderbergs furniture are represented at the Museum of Furniture Studies where their pieces were shown at the exhibition 1980’s – A new era in furniture design in 2019 and at the Röhsska Museum of Craft and Design in Gothenburg.
