The designer Emil Ahlgren studied a bachelor’s in design at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm from 2019 to 2022. In his degree project Artifical Allmoge Ahlgren explored the shift from pre-industrial craftsmanship to industrial serial production.
Based on his studies Ahlgren examined how the growing field of machine learning can affect the designer´s role in the potential future. By scanning 90 different old Swedish folklore chairs and morphed them through artificial intelligence, one chair emerged as an archetypal combination of them all.
In 2022, Ahlgren was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies with his project Artificial Allmoge.
