Emma Olbers moved to Stockholm in 1992 where she studied at Nyckelviksskolan and later on Beckmans College of Design. After graduating in 1999, Olbers founded her own design studio in Stockholm from where she with focus on sustainability works with clients such as IKEA, Stolab, Wood Stockholm, Ire, and Asplund.
In 2012 Olbers designed the Sthlm Wood collection, made only by materials accessible in Stockholm; a willow from Norr Mälarstrand, a poplar from Gullmarsplan, wool from the king’s sheep at Djurgården etc. The collection consisted of a.o. a sofa, a carpet and a table and was shown at Designgalleriet during Stockholm Design Week.
In 2018 Olbers designed the interior for the Old Library at the re-opening of the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm. The keywords for the project were environment and sustainability, and Olbers a.o. designed the carpet Nationalmuseum, made partly of the environmentally friendly material Tencel by Asplund. Olbers also invited Front Design Studio and Monica Förster to contribute to the project.
For the Old Library project, Olbers was awarded the Interior designer of the Year award by German AD magazine. Olbers has been the recipient of several major awards such as the magazine Rum’s Designprize the environmental profile of the year in 2018 and Skön Hem’s Furniture of the Year award in 2016.
