Eva Lilja Löwenhielm studied design at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm. After graduation she founded her own multidisciplinary design studio in 1996 from where she works with clients such as Asplund, Alcro, AGA, Filippa-K, IKEA of Sweden, Svenssons, Room, PEAB, Hotel Birger Jarl and several private residences.
Lilja Löwenhielm has worked on several designs and interiors together with designer Anya Sebton, whom she met at Beckmans. In 1997 Lilja Löwenhielm was engaged by IKEA to design products for the second PS collection. The result was the armchair PS 2, a carpet and a mirror that were launched at the H99 fair in Helsingborg 1999. The PS 2 armchair, made with a steel pipe fram and upholstery with a teddy fabric soon became a success for IKEA.
Lilja Löwenhielm has since made several well-known designs for IKEA, such as the side table Stockholm and a collection of office chairs. 22 years after her debut for IKEA, in 2019, Eva Lilja Löwenhielm started her assignment as Design Director at IKEA of Sweden. It was the first time since the 1950’s, when Gillis Lundgren had the same role, that the company choose to hire a professional designer as their Design Director.
In 2019/2020 Lilja Löwenhielm was a part of the Female Traces exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies in Stockholm. She is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts.
