Hee Welling attended the University of Art and Design in Helsinki and has a master's degree in furniture design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In 2003, he established his own design studio in Copenhagen that works in the fields of furniture, interiors, lighting, and industrial design for clients including HAY, Arrmet, Abstracta, and Fredrica Furniture.
For HAY, Welling has designed the About a Chair collection, which began in 2007 and consists of several chair models as well as bar stools, table systems, and armchairs. Welling has received the BoBedres Møbelpris, the American Good Design Award, and has been nominated for the Danish Designer of the Year. His designs have been used in several international interiors, including the Oslo Opera House, the Australian and Danish parliaments, and Amazon’s head office.
Besides his work as a designer, Welling has also been a tutor in design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Danish Institute for Study broad (DIS). Since 2010, he has been a partner in the design studio Welling /Ludvik together with Icelandic designer Gudmundur Ludvik.
