Jonas Lindvall studied interior architecture at HDK Valand – Gothenburg University from 1989-93, furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London in 1992 and architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen in 1993. After completing his studies, Lindvall returned to his hometown Malmö where he opened his own design and architectural studio.
In 1993 Lindvall got his breakthrough when he designed the interior for the restaurant Izakaya Koi in Malmö. All the pieces in Japanese inspired style interior were made especially for the restaurant and ten years later it was awarded the Golden chair prize by Architects Sweden. Lindvall designed the chair Oak, with the wish to create a piece that welcomed the visitor when seen from behind, the perspective chairs are often first experienced. Oak was produced by Skandiform and was given the Excellent Swedish Design award in 2000 and the Furniture of the Year by the magazine Skön Hem in 2001. (Due to its modernized classic style, remnant of the 1920’s Swedish Grace, Oak was also the recipient of the The agelessness of the Year by Form Magazine.)
One of Lindvalls most known furniture designs is the chair Miss Holly, produced by Stolab in 2011. For Miss Holly, Lindvall took his inspiration from both the classical Windsor chair, and the 1950’s passion for the traditional carver. In 2012 a table was added to the Miss Holly collection which has since been complemented with a.o. a wall bar and a bar stool.
As an interior architect, Lindvall has worked on several restaurants, shops and hotels and in 2015 he made the new interior for the Ersta Church in Stockholm. Lindvalls also designs both residential houses as well as private villas. Jonas Lindvall is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and and the Museum of Furniture Studies in Stockholm,
