Jukka Viitasara studied for a bachelor’s in industrial design at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm, from where he graduated in 2022.
Viitasara’s degree project Home/Work included furniture for interaction, play and exercise in our home. Swedes sit an average of ten hours per day, which is associated with a lot of risks, such as cardiovascular diseases, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels. In the Home/Work project, Viitasara tries to nudge us to move a little bit more in our everyday lives. The design is inspired by climbing holds, crash pads, and bouldering. The aesthetics spring from the hand axe, a prehistoric stone tool with two faces that is the longest-used tool in human history.
Home/Work was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies.
