The cabinetmaker and furniture designer Julia Sthillert graduated from LiU Malmstens in 2022. Her degree project Activision Blizzards is the result of a collaboration with the game company with the same name, where the game World of Warcraft has been the main inspiration. The purpose of Sthillert's thesis was to utilize the company’s corporate expressions and explore the ability of recognition aesthetics to pre-create a relationship with a new piece of furniture. Sthillert’s design assignment was to work with Activision Blizzard's entrance in London (SOHO), where her goal was to achieve a space where visitors and employees physically could set foot into their own world.
The first result was a lounge chair where the inspiration is taken from Orcs, "the Barrens" and the entire interior aims to portray the in-game area of "Warsong Gulch". The lounge chair carries clear elements of orcish design, as they use simple materials such as wood, fabric, rope and horns from various fantasy creatures.
Sthillert continued by studying a master’s in spatial design at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.
The project Activision Blizzards was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies.
