Karin Tyrefors graduated with a master’s degree from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts & Design and the department of interior architecture and furniture design in 1988. In 1990 she founded Karin Tyrefors Design Production in Södertälje, Sweden.
Tyrefors works with furniture design, mainly in exclusive editions, interior architecture as well as art, production and stonemasonry. Of her work one can mention Terra Firma the artistic configuration of the Almedalen library in Visby, Gotland in 2000 and Resa Sten monumental limestone sculptures in Hagaparken and Frescati, Stockholm 1998.
In 1992 Tyrefors received the Excellent Swedish Design award for the chair Seagrass (produced by I-form from 1992-2000), made of oiled ash wood and seagrass. Five years later she was awarded the same prize for the pilar table Tablette made of a metal stand with a top of marble or diabase, and the lighting fixture Vicenza for Swedish manufacturer Ateljé Lyktan.
Of Tyrefors production, Seagrass is a part of the collection at the Museum for Furniture Studies.
