Malin Moderatho Winther studied a bachelor’s in furniture design at LiU Malmstens in Lidingö near Stockholm. In her degree project, Moderatho Winther gave herself a limited number of materials and techniques, while also creating intuitionally. The process was more important than the end result, as she actively tried to free herself from the sometimes structured design process.
By working sculpturally, Moderatho Winther’s focus has been to grow as a designer. With inspiration from her own drawings and paintings, the fabric weave grew organically. Its final shape then determined the design of the pine wood frame. All textiles used in the project was waste materials, which have been donated from Lilla Tapetserarverkstaden and Möbeltapetserarna in Täby outside Stockholm.
Waste Fabric Bench was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies in 2022.
