Marcus Keichel studied design, architecture, and cultural studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin. After graduation in 1996 Keichel worked as a freelance designer before founding the design studio Läufer & Keichel together with designer Julia Läufer in 2003.
Läufer & Keichel is based in Berlin and has worked with brands such as Avarte, Lammhults, Thonet, Martela and Offecct. For Lammhults Läufer and Keichel designed the Pennet chair in 2014, that is a part of the collection at the Museum of Furniture Studies in Stockholm.
Together Keichel and Läufer has been the recipients of several prolific awards, such as the Red Dot Award in 2017 for the Penne chair and German Design Award GOLD for the office desk program TRAILO for Reiss in 2019.
In 2016 Marcus Keichel was appointed professor of product design at HTW Dresden University of Applied Sciences.
