In 2022, Masashi Rai attended the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies with his degree project in wood-oriented furniture design from HDK-Valand Campus Steneby. In the project called Calligraphic Chair, Rai tried to find the answer to the question of what material is- by taking inspiration from the carver chair, a graphic timetable for trains, and a calligram. The result was a group of chairs, that were both similar and very different.
