Mats Aldén studied at Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark and worked at the architectural office of Åke Axelsson from 1988 before founding his own design studio in Stockholm in 1995. Since then, Aldén has designed for among others Nola and in 2000 he founded his own company Alden furniture.
As an interior architect Aldén has worked on the reconstruction of the restaurant Den Gyldene Freden and the Parliament library in Stockholm as well as the library and offices for Malmö Konsthall.
From 2006 to 2017 Aldén was the professor and artistic leader of the department of wood-oriented furniture design at HDK Steneby in Dals Långed. During the same period he was a senior lecturer at the department of interior architecture and furniture design at Konstfack University of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm.
