Mikaela Midell studied a bachelor’s in product design at Beckmans College of Design from 2019 to 2022. Her degree project was a coat stand called Line-up. By focusing on a piece of furniture with a distinct purpose, Midell saw the possibility to experiment with form on a large scale, working with height and angles. Midell’s degree project landed naturally in an entrance hall, a space that is often overlooked.
In her project Midell invited a dynamic interaction between form, user and room. The coat stand is made up of three parts and is modular. The components are integrated with each other in such a way that it makes the piece easier to lift and move around. A large part of the project has been about finding a balance, in how material, colour and shape relate to each other.
In 2022 Line-up was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies.
