Monika Mulder studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven from 1992- 97 whereafter an internship at the design department of IKEA led to Mulder moving to Sweden. Since 2007 Mulder runs her own design studio in an old sugar factory in Gothenburg, from where she works as an independent designer for companies such as Materia, Markslöjd, Pholc, Tenzo and IKEA.
For IKEA Mulder has designed a.o. the Sävö stackable lounge chair in rattan and the Gjöra bed frame (that was awarded the Swedish Design Award by Elle decoration in 2017). For the watering pot Vållö, Mulder was given the Excellent Swedish Design Award in 2002.
Besides her work as a designer, Mulder also works as a lecturer at schools and conferences, aiming to share her experiences as a designer. In 2019/2020 Monka Mulder's Sävö out-door lounge chair was a part of the Female Traces exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies.
