Øivind Iversen studied at what today is the Oslo National Academy of the Arts from where he graduated in 1955. As his degree project Iversen designed the City chair, with seat and back in one piece made of laminated wood and legs of steel pipes. The City chair was produced by Møre Lenestolfabrikk and soon became a best seller that could be ordered in several different colors. In 2007 the City chair was relaunched by the Norwegian company ForaForm.
