Italian architect and furniture designer Paolo Orlandini studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1968 Orlandini began working with designer Roberto Lucci and together they designed a plethora of award-winning industrial products for major companies such as Velca, Knoll, Magis, Lamm, Thonet USA, and Artemide.
For Velca, Lucci and Orlandini designed the well-known VIP coat tree and umbrella stand in 1970. Their partnership lasted until 2009 after which Orlandini joined the Orlandini Design Studio together with his son Folco Orlandini and Gianno Martinelli.
Orlandini has also worked as a professor in L’Istituto Europeo di Design, l’I.S.I.A. di Roma, il Politecnico di Milano, la Scuola Politecnica di Design di Milano and lo IUAV di Treviso.
