The furniture designer Simon Bågstam was a trained boat builder before studying a bachelor’s in furniture design at LiU Malmstens in Lidingö.
In his degree project called Ek, Kopparnit & Möbeldesign (eng. oak, copper-rivets & furniture design) Bågstam explored his background in crafting wooden boats. He made tests of construction methods and materials that occurs in the traditional boat building technique and later on applied them into a design process with focus on sustainability. The result was a lounge chair for in- or outdoor use, made with a glue free construction in solid oak, held together with copper rivets.
Ek, kopparnit & möbeldesign was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies.
