Simon Mattisson studied a bachelor’s in product design at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm between 2019 and 2022. Mattisson gained a lot of attention and was honored with the interior company Svenskt Tenn's Scholarship for his degree project named Granland.
Mattissons project shows a circular furniture production, based on a new material, an exploration of form in a new production method and the use of design as a way of communicating an ongoing environmental problem. Mattisson designed a collection of benches and book shelves, 3D-printed of wood composite made of materials affected by the European spruce bark beetle and with the design based on the patterns made by the bark beetle within the threes.
The Grandland project was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies in 2022.
