Thomas Eriksson studied architecture at Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from 1981 to -85. During three years from 1985 he worked at AOS Architects, where after he in 1988 founded his own architectural studio TEArk. The studio, that mainly worked with airports and hotels interiors closed in 2021 due to the Covid-pandemic.
As a designer Eriksson is best known for the medicine cabinet Cross, made of lacquered steel sheets in the shape of a cross, design to Italian manufacturer Cappellini´s project Oggetti Progretti in 1992. The cabinet is a part of the collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the Museum of Furniture Studies in Stockholm.
During the early 1990s Eriksson worked together with IKEA for the first PS collection, consisting of among others a coffee table, a stool, a clock, and an armchair. The collection was launched at the furniture fair in Milan and was awarded the Excellent Swedish Design Award in 1995. Other designers working on the collection was Thomas Sandell, Tom Hedqvist, Thomas Svanström and Lisa Steen. Some items from Eriksson’s PS range are part of the collection at the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
In 1998 Eriksson was one of the co-founders of Stockholm Design Lab that got great recognition for the brand identity program for SAS – Scandinavian Airlines, designed in 1990s. The program received a special award for best design program from the Excellent Swedish Design Award in 1999 and a first prize for best corporate identity form Core Design in 2001.
